Meat & 2 Veg Recipe Check with Heck Challenge

HECK Chicken Italia sausages

This year sausage makers HECK renamed its Chicken Italia sausages as CHECK to help raise funds and awareness for the Movember Foundation. As part of the campaign they challenged bloggers to make a Meat & 2 veg recipe so this is mine! First some scary stats:

  • 90% of men don’t realise testicular cancer is more likely to affect younger men
  • 82% of men find it embarrassing to discuss their testicles with a parent or GP
  • Almost 30% of Scotsmen and Northern Irishmen never check their testicles

Slow Cooker Sausages with Peppers and Onions

This recipe is quick and easy to prepare ahead of time. It makes a deliciously hearty meal which is perfect for winter!

Serves 2 to 3

  • 3 medium bell peppers in assorted colours, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 cup beer or cider
  • 2 tbsp whole-grain mustard
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 packs HECK Chicken Italia sausages
  • 10 hot dog buns (optional)
  1. In your slow cooker place the sliced peppers and onion, the beer or cider and mustard, then stir.
  2. Place the sausages on top of your vegetables in an even layer.
  3. Put the cover on your slow cooker and choose the LOW setting, cook for 6 hours or until the peppers are tender and the sausages are cooked through.
  4. Transfer the sausages to plates using tongs.
  5. Transfer the pepper and onion mixture out of the liquid and onto the sausages.
  6. If serving on buns, split and toast them before filling with sausages and veggies.
  7. Enjoy!
