If you ask people what the most important part of a Wedding is most people will say the Bride’s outfit – after the actual act of getting married, of course! However, when I was planning my wedding in 2012 my main concern was the venue. I wanted something that people would remember and represented us as a couple.
If you are planning a Wedding around the East of England then look no further than Peterborough which has an array of venues for all tastes from traditional churches to hotels and estates. These are my top three Wedding venues in Peterborough:
Burghley House
Burghley House is one of the largest and grandest houses from the 16th century, being built and designed mostly by William Cecil the Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1555 and 1587. The House includes 35 major rooms as well as more than 80 lesser rooms, an Orangery as well as beautiful historic parkland laid out by Capability Brown which to this day is occupied by a herd of fallow deer.
Burghley offers a stunning venue for a Wedding with its Tudor architecture and a fairy-tale roofline overlooking the picturesque parkland. Pick from their three licensed rooms – the Great Hall, Orangery or Summerhouse for the ceremony, with post-ceremony drinks and canapés to be enjoyed either in the Rose Garden or in the Old Kitchen amongst the historic copper.
If you are looking for a grand venue for your Wedding with stunning scenery, Burghley House might be the one for you. The venue has made it onto several top 10 lists!
Normanton Church
If you are looking for something more quirky but still with breath-taking scenery you should consider Normanton Church which sits on the shore of Rutland Water and is now a civil venue, having been deconsecrated in 1970. A Rutland icon, the Church was built in medieval times and was re-designed in 1826-9 by surveyors to the Grosvenor Estate in Westminster. The Church was to have been demolished as part of the reservoir construction as the floor was below the proposed water level, but was saved by public outcry – now the light is the only thing that floods this unique venue.
With a beautifully arched interior and picturesque view out across the water, this grade II listed building makes for a splendid Wedding venue which will certainly be memorable for up to 102 guests with the magnificent interior and atmosphere and charm of this lovely offering the romance you would expect at a traditional church wedding.
If you are looking for a mix of quirky and traditional Normanton Church and its beautiful riverside location might be for you.
Elton Hall and Gardens
An extraordinary, romantic – part Gothic house Elton Hall stands amidst a 3,800-acre estate including unspoilt landscaped parkland straddling the Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire borders. With a mix of architectural styles from Hall’s south front incorporating the 15th-century tower and chapel to the Dining Room built-in 1860 designed by Henry Ashton with three stunning large Gothic windows.
Wedding ceremonies take place in the newly refurbished 19th-century room with drink receptions in the stunning formal gardens. This is the perfect reception venue with the 200 acres of parkland bound by the river Nene on the west offering a beautiful and well-situated venue for holding an outdoor celebration protected by a marquee. Refreshment options include an afternoon tea wedding breakfast and evening hog roast buffet.
