Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh
Arthur’s Seat is the highest of a group of hills, formed from the remains of a volcano, that makeup Holyrood Park. It is relatively easy to climb, and is popular for hillwalking summit is 251m high offering panoramic views of the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Head up to Arthur’s Seat at sunset for a romantic evening watching the shadows fall over the dark and narrow streets with a luxury picnic, or enjoy brunch at dawn as Edinburgh is engulfed in the morning light.
Falkland, Fife
Falkland is a small and picturesque village between the two Lomond Hills in the Howe of Fife. Outlander fans, like myself, might recognise it from the series as the location used to portray the City of Inverness which Clare and Frank visit in the first episode when they stay at Mrs. Baird’s B&B. Pop into the Town House Deli and Bakery for some delicious treats, explore the Falkland Estate and wistfully enjoy the traditional charm. If you’re visiting alone why not check out this Fife dating website and find some company?
Galloway Forest Park, Dumfries and Galloway
Discover picturesque forest trails, three friendly visitor centres, wonderful wildlife, and a long and colourful history at the Galloway Forest Park. If you enjoy an active date there is plenty of scope for walking, gentle cycling, or exhilarating mountain biking here! Alternatively, sit back and soak up breathtaking loch and mountain views and starry night skies. Galloway Forest Park offers some of the clearest night skies anywhere in Europe so you won’t need your telescope!
Eilean Donan Castle, Dornie
You can’t really get more iconic than the romantic setting of Eilean Donan Castle. Situated at the confluence of three sea lochs, Eilean Donan is a small tidal island surrounded by majestic scenery and dominated by the picturesque castle that frequently appears in photographs, film, and television. It is one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands. These days you can stay in the nearby Eilean Donan Cottage, and they even host Weddings (no pressure!)
The Northern Lights, Caithness
Something at the top of everyone’s bucket list. Northern Scotland actually lies at the same latitude as Stavanger in Norway and Nunivak Island in Alaska which means that you’re in with a good chance of spotting the Northern Lights! Caithness is still the best place in mainland Britain to see the Northern Lights, being the furthest north and having excellent dark skies perfect for peering up seeking the stunning wash of colours which is the aurora borealis. You can’t get much more romantic than snuggling up together under a blanket watching the skies light up!
