5 Winter Wardrobe Must Haves 2017
There’s no reason why you can’t continue to be stylish despite the colder weather. There are some key items that you will always need to have handy in the winter months and more often than not there will be a winter trend you can easily slide into your winter wardrobe which is both practical and beautiful. Here are my 5 winter wardrobe must-haves for this year.
The Jumper
With temperatures dropping having some lovely jumpers in your wardrobe is important! Luckily knitwear is always in style and this year is no different. Consider adding a few key pieces which look great when dressed up or down and don’t forget layering options. A top trend this year is the chunky fisherman sweater, cable knit works with everything from casual boyfriend jeans to a button-down shirt with tailored trousers for the office. Alternatively try a cashmere crewneck sweater which is perfect for laying up with a collared shirt or pair with midi skirts, jeans, printed trousers and leather pants for a put together winter look.
The Coat
No-one wants to be caught unprepared in a rainstorm so make sure you have a coat you can rely upon. There are many coats available for Winter so make sure you pick one which is stylish but practical – do you need protection from the weather or something to keep you snug and warm or both? This season the trench coat is an essential wardrobe having become a feminine classic. They are lightweight and weather-proof style perfect for transitioning between seasons and can be worn with jeans and sneakers for day, or up with a dress and heels for night. Making a come back for AW 17 is the puffer which now comes in a range of styles for comfortable winter adventures. Or how about a waxed ski jacket from North Face or Roxy for a practical stylish look?
The Hat & Scarf
Quite simply a winter hat and cosy scarf are basic essentials for winter. Hats were a big thing on the catwalks so there are lots of stylish options. Make a statement this winter with a wide-brim hat or classic Fedoras. A simple black beret makes a chic addition to your winter wardrobe or go all out for the warm factor with a trooper hats with furry ear flaps which are far superior to knit beanies, keeping your ears warm all season long. There are countless ways to style a scarf from being carelessly thrown over your shoulders to wrapped neatly around your neck with a knot. I personally love a blanket wrap scarf which is big enough to keep you warm and snug in even the coldest weather!
The Layered Tops
When it comes to layering for winter you can’t go wrong by investing in turtleneck tops to keep you nice and snug all winter long! Turtlenecks are super flexible and can be worn under a sweater for extra warmth when outdoors, teamed with a sleeveless dress in the office, or simply worn with jeans for a casual weekend. The cape is back for another season this time in plush velvet, embroidery and tie-up ribbon. These are great for slipping on to protect you in the transition into the colder months. One of my favourites is the oversized boyfriend cardigans which are so easy to wear and is now a classic layering staple.
The Boots
Ankle boots are one of the few genuine wardrobe staples, stylish and versatile this shoe never goes out of fashion. From laidback chunky styles to stacked-heel bootie, 90s style lace-ups, insta-famous metallic boots and little patent, floral or sock-fit boot you can find a pair of ankle boots to work with almost any outfit from jeans, trousers, a skirt, dress or winter shorts and tights thanks to their flattering style and practical length. If you prefer something a bit more from your footwear then consider knee-high boots.Worn with tights and a pencil skirt, knee-high boots are office-friendly and will keep your legs warm for after work drinks, blending in with the overall look for after-dark as well as daytime.
