Autumn Craft Projects
When I am not working (or walking my dogs) I can usually be found curled up on the sofa with a G&T and a craft project. I love being creative and finding ways to express myself through different media; mostly yarn and papercrafts.
In fact, I only recently re-organised my yarn stash having moved house a couple of months ago. I really wanted to have my collection off the floor away from my cats who love to nest in my yarn and have mounted it on the wall in what I lovingly call the yarn cage and organised it like a rainbow (see photo!)
Today I am going to give you the run down of the crafty projects I have been working on this Autumn – some are in about to start, some are in progress and some are even finished!
Rainbow Granny Square Blanket
You might remember that right back at the start of lockdown I was sent a yarn bundle and free pattern from Love Crafts to make a fabulous rainbow granny square blanket and I finally finished it last week! Yes, it took me much longer than I had expected but things like a house move and a new job got in the way. I really love the colours of the blanket and just how big and cosy it is! It’s perfect to snuggle up underneath when watching tv on a cold autumn evening.
Waffle Stitch Scarf
Waffle stitch is one of my favourite crochet stitches, it makes such thick and sumptuous fabric. When organising my yarn stash I discovered I had lots of this beautiful deep purple colour and I decided I would make a long waffle stitch scarf for my boyfriend to keep him warm. If you haven’t tried waffle stitch you really should, it’s perfect for all sorts of projects. You can find lots of free crochet patterns online for inspiration! Yarnie is a free newsletter in which you receive free crochet patterns and inspiration.
Pumpkins
Nothing says autumn like pumpkins! I love autumnal decor in my house at this time of year and although I do love getting a real pumpkin and carving a ghoulish face in it I do feel guilty for wasting a perfectly good pumpkin. These adorable crochet pumpkins are now dotted all around my home and really make my space seasonal. With trick or treating called off this year due to Covid people are putting handmade Halloween decorations in windows for children to find, and these would be perfect for that!
Christmas Cards
Right, onto my upcoming and in-progress projects! Last year I decided I wanted to make my own Christmas cards for the people in my local community rather than buying them. Making cards can be as hard or as easy as you want them to be; from using papercutting machines like the Cricut where you can download premium fonts for free from sites like Creative Fabrica and create something beautiful, to simply using a beautiful stamp and ink like I plan to this year. I purchased this elegant stamp from Noolibird and can’t wait to get making! I love Christmas!
Queen Mosaic Crochet Blanket
This is my most complicated project to date; the Queen CAL by Tinna Thórudóttir Thorvaldsdóttir I have only just started this and have done about 4 rows so far – it’s going to take me some time to finish! The Queen Cal is made up of repeating sections of patterns using the mosaic crochet technique. I will share a photo of the finished pattern – although as you can see from the photo below, mine will be in purple!
So, what are you making right now?
