Plant with Trellises
A trellis is a great base for trailing and climbing plants, and you can pretty much wrap whatever else you want up in the lattice work as well. That makes for a great bit of garden scenery, and if you have more than one trellis installed, you can create a living, breathing, interwoven tapestry in your backyard.
Make sure you set the trellises up securely and have them weighted at the bottom, as you don’t want any wild winds or wildlife blowing them over. Once they’re in place, get your plants seeded and growing and watch as your walls and fencing start to creep with greenery.
Install a Raised Pond
A raised pond will immediately change the look of your garden by adding a new level to the landscape. This kind of water feature is a great backdrop element, but it can also be a wonderful focal point that the rest of the garden gathers around. It’s up to you how to incorporate it into the space!
But if you do, make sure you’re working with proper pond glass to keep the water safely contained and any fish or marine life you want to keep safe from wildlife. A pond that’s off the ground can be more exposed to outdoor dangers, and if you’ve invested in goldfish or koi carp, you’ll want to keep them out of other critters’ mouths!
Change the Shape/Level of Your Lawn
Your lawn is one of the biggest elements of your garden, and because of that, it should also be the most dynamic feature in the whole space. As such, why not change the shape and/or level of your lawn? This way you can create a tiered garden that draws the eye upwards, with tall trees at the back and a great sloping down toward your back door.
If you change the shape, you’ll be able to create some interesting (and even wacky) borders, which are great for outlining with anything you also like the look of. For some this is shingle, for some it’s shells, for others it’s just rockery – do whatever you like here!
