Dos & Don’ts When Dressing For A Wedding: A Man’s Guide
When you get an invite to a wedding these days there are so many considerations, things like travel and accommodation, the event venues, extravagant stag trips and, of course, changes in wedding fashion can make it a real task in planning everything out. But don’t stress too much, we are here to provide a handy guide to the dos and don’ts of dressing for a wedding as a modern-day man.
Keep It Traditional
A wedding is a very traditional occasion in almost all circumstances and unless you’ve got some mates who think they’re alternative and edgy throwing a pool-party themed wedding or something then now is not the time to experiment. So traditional can change depending on location and the family, but it’s a fair bet that the majority of them will involve some sort of suit and tie for gentlemen.
Don’t Try To Out-Do The Wedding Party
This is absolutely key advice, don’t ever try and out-do the wedding party or even get in on the act if you are not part of it. Yup, you may rightly feel slighted that your pal has chosen Dodgy Dave as his best man rather than you with all your qualities, but that’s no reason to order up the same outfit as them. Keep it simple and keep it classy.
Get The Right Accessories
Subtle accessories are the way to go when making your fashion point. A nice waistcoat and pocket-watch for example, or the right shoes can even look cracking. Something as seemingly mundane as getting a tie for your wedding can be a very important choice. Little things like watches, pocket handkerchiefs, and even cufflinks can be good ways to show off your sense of style and show everyone what you are all about. Don’t forget about your socks either!
National Or Cultural Dress Is Fine
One manner in which it is acceptable to break with the suit and tie tradition is to wear your national dress, which is a great and interesting way to look good and display your proud National heritage. Examples could include a Scotsman wearing an impressive outfit of Highland Dress (that’s the kilt to you or I) or if you are of a religious persuasion then a traditional religious outfit can be very impressive, if you are of the Sikh religion then few outfits are as bold and impressive as a Kurta or Sherwani, be proud and confident and represent your people at any wedding you are lucky enough to attend
Get An Outfit That Is Re-Usable
No matter what way you go a wedding outfit is going to cost money so what you will want to be purchasing one which is not going to be a once-worn phenomenon. At the very least you can use it again for future weddings but even more so than that if you get a good suit that can be a usable work outfit as well then you are really on to a winner.
