How to prepare your home for garden summer parties
I can’t wait for summer and for restrictions to lift so we can finally see friends and family again. It feels like forever since we’ve been with our close family. When the weather was nice, we used to get together almost every weekend, the kids would play in the garden and we would enjoy each other’s company over a glass or two of wine.
Soon, we will be able to do the same again, and I couldn’t be more excited. Lockdown restrictions are going to be slowly eased in the upcoming weeks and months, and from the 29th of March, we will be able to meet up with either 6 people or 2 households outdoors in a private garden. This not only means that we will be able to see people again, but it also means that it’s essential to get our gardens ready, so we can our guests the warmest of welcomes.
Clean, declutter and organise
These are on top of my list. If you are like me, you may or may not have forgotten about your outdoor area during the miserable, cold and dark months of winter. There are weeds coming out of the paving slabs, there is grime and debris all over the patio and some cobwebs on the outdoor furniture. It’s time to clean, declutter and organise your garden. The Handy Squad, handyman in London, recommend using a pressure washer to remove any grime, moss and debris from your patio.
While you’re at it, it’s worth giving your home’s security a quick check too. A trusted locksmith can help ensure your doors and garden gates are secure, especially as we prepare to welcome guests back into our homes. Updating locks or adding an extra layer of security can provide that added peace of mind, allowing you to focus on making the most of your time with friends and family.
Update outdoor furniture
Do you have old outdoor furniture that doesn’t look good or even inviting to use? You have two options. Upcycle or replace. If you are good at repairs and renovations, why not try to upcycle your outdoor furniture? If you simply want something new and refreshing to adorn your garden area, treat yourself to some brand-new garden furniture.
Add new plants
This article on Better Homes & Gardens recommends choosing “native plants to help lower the maintenance of your plantings; plants from your region usually hold up better to pest and disease problems and weather extremes.” If you don’t mind keeping a close eye on your garden and maintaining your plants, go for plants, flowers and veggies that you love!
If you really don’t have a green thumb and can’t keep a plant alive at all, go for some artificial plants and flowers. As Ideal Home mentions, fauxliage – in the form of faux topiary, shrubs and long grass – is now more realistic than ever before and will brighten up your garden all year round.
Install outdoor lighting
Make your garden area shine no matter if it’s day or night by installing some outdoor lighting. You can add some outdoor fairy lights all around your outdoor dining area or simply add some spotlights to showcase some of your favourite parts of the garden.
How else are you going to give your garden an uplift?
