Introducing Pura Vida Bracelets
After getting my last tattoo (a hummingbird on the inside of my right wrist) I haven’t worn any bracelets feeling that my ink was enough of a statement, however, when I came across Pura Vida a company which makes friendship-like bracelets in Costa Rica I was mesmerised by the different designs and their way of supporting the local craftsmen and I simply had to get some!
After a trip to Costa Rica two American friends were captivated by the simple way of life of the people and when they met two locals selling bracelets they were inspired by the designs which seemed to capture the essence of their journey. The two sellers were living in poverty and on seeing this the two Americans requested that the sellers make 400 bracelets for them to take home with them to create a new business Pura Vida which is Spanish for “pure life” a Costa Rican philosophy that encourages the appreciation of life’s simple treasures.
Each and every bracelet is delicately handcrafted by artisans in Costa Rica with seemingly endless colour combinations and innovative styles ;each bracelet is as unique as the person wearing it. Today more than 100 Costa Ricans are employed by the company supporting the local people and their families. Not satisfied with this Pura Vida offers a selection of bracelets inspired by 190 charities the world over and have raised more than $935,358 to date. They are also a member of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of their annual net revenue to environmental organisations worldwide.
So far I have purchased six bracelets from Pura Vida and I love them all. I have chosen a blue/purple theme and have loved collecting the different styles of woven threads. All of the bracelets are wax-coated and are 100% waterproof, they come with an adorable gold-coated copper ‘p’ charm and are adjustable from 2-5 inches in diameter which makes them easy to stack.
The bracelets I have are as follows:
I have really enjoyed collecting the bracelets and adding new textures and patterns, all the while knowing that my money is going to many fantastic causes. If you’re looking for a way to mix up your style this summer I really recommend Pura Vida bracelets. It won’t be long until both of my arms are full of beautiful life changing bracelets!
