Introducing #YOOXlovesthereef
Stretching over 2300 kilometres (1400 miles) the majestic Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the largest living organism on Earth, it is home to 1625 species of fish and can be seen from space. Despite being known around the globe and being one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef faces a battle to survive every day.
Which is why, on Earth Day this year, YOOX joined forces with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, which champions real solutions to the threats facing Australia’s great natural wonder, and launched its project to support this natural marvel, in an attempt to save the largest living organism on the planet with their capsule fashion collection Yoox Loves the Reef.
Australian brand We Are Handsome designed the collection drawing inspiration from the Great Barrier Reef’s ecosystem with garments which reflects the magic and wildness of the reef in its choice of colour and pattern, is made up of six key pieces including swimwear, leggings and t-shirts.
When you purchase these eye-catching pieces you contribute to the work of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation in Australia, helping to protect and conserve the Reef and its habitat. In particular, proceeds raised through the partnership will be directed towards responding to bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef caused when the symbiotic relationship between the coral and algae ceases, causing the coral to die leading ultimately to reef collapse.
I think this collection is bright, bold and beautiful just like the Great Barrier Reef and perfect for getting a bit of Australian style when enjoying the beach and the fact that the proceeds are helping to protect a natural wonder is a huge bonus.
