Make your own Lavender Swirl Soap Bars

I love to make my own beauty and body products. I have made quite a few different things over the years including bath bombs, soaps, and even moisturiser. As someone with sensitive skin, I find it reassuring that I know exactly what goes into the things I made and I can use my preferred ingredients.

You might think the idea of making your own soap is a terrifying prospect, and yes, there are complicated methods using dangerous chemicals, but if you are a beginner, the simplest way to start is to purchase a soap base! Soap base is a pre-mixed combination of soap, glycerin, and a few add-ins like plant butters and extracts for skin benefits, along with additives for transparency or fillers for making opaque bars.

These Lavender Swirl Soap Bars need no special molds, just silicone cupcake liners so they are super easy to make! Purple and white melt and pour is layered and swirled, then topped with dried lavender buds to create these gorgeous one-of-a-kind bars. Use yourself at home or give away as delightful handmade gifts! I promise it is quick and easy.

Supplies:

Makes 6 bars

  • ¾ lb melt and pour soap base
  • Lavender essential oil
  • ½ tsp lavender mica powder
  • 1 tbsp dried lavender buds
  • 2 – 4 cup microwave safe measuring cups with spout
  • 2 wooden craft sticks for stirring
  • 6 silicone cupcake liners

Directions:

  1. Set the cupcake liners out on a flat surface.
  2. Cut the soap base into 1-inch cubes, and divide them between the two measuring cups.
  3. Place both measuring cups in the microwave, and heat on high in 30-second intervals, stirring between each heating session, until the soap base is fully melted.
  4. Add 15 drops of lavender essential oil to each of the measuring cups, and stir well.
  5. Add the mica powder to one of the measuring cups, and stir until the color is solid.
  6. Pour a small amount of one of the colors into each cupcake liner, not completely filling the bottom.
  7. Repeat this step with the other color.
  8. Continue alternating pours between the two colors, until you have used up all of the soap base.
  9. Allow the bars to set for 2-3 hours, then unmold.
