My post-lockdown bucket list
Like most people stuck in lockdown at the moment I have spent some time considering activities that I would like to give a go when we are free to leave our homes and to resume a normal life once again.
Having been stuck in the house with little to do other than watch series on Netflix, try and bake without bread flour and consider doing an online course in gardening I have enjoyed scouring the internet for skills I might like to learn and today I am sharing 10 of these with you in the hopes that it might inspire you to make your own post-lockdown bucket list.
Archery
I have always felt a fascination with archery. I am not really sure why but there’s something elegant and captivating about the sport. An ex of mine used to teach archery to kids at a summer camp and I remember enjoying watching them have fun. Archery is a low-impact, very safe sport suitable for all ages and ability – thank goodness!
Pyrography
Pyrography is the art of burning patterns onto wood (or other surfaces, often leather) using heated tools. I am a crafty person and usually work with yarn but I would love to get up the courage to give Pyrography a go and learn how to personalise wooden items and make beautiful items for my home and gifts!
Dancing
I have always felt inadequate when it comes to dancing, it has never come naturally to me. I would love to work on building my confidence and learning some classic dances so I feel more at home on the dance floor. Luckily you don’t need much specialist equipment to get started although I might consider buying some Yuyo Brujo tango shoes to give me a little something extra when learning Latin dances.
Silver Ring Making
When I was younger I enjoyed making my own jewellery at home with wire, beads and other decorations. Now that I’m older I would love to make my own silver ring in one of the workshops I have seen advertised where I will be taught how to cut, shape and finish a completely unique sterling silver ring.
Fencing
Like archery, fencing is one of those activities I have admired for a while and haven’t had the courage to explore as fencing is physically demanding, requiring intense concentration and tactical awareness. Although I don’t think I’d ever want to compete, it might be a fun way to get fit!
Keeping Bees
I love wildlife and am aware of the plight of native bees with environmental changes and chemicals harming their natural habitats. I would love to learn about beekeeping and potentially set up a hive in my garden. Beekeeping is becoming an increasingly popular pastime and it needn’t take up huge amounts of time or cost the earth, with the end results being happy bees and honey for all your friends and family. Keeping the bees happy with a homemade bee fondant is the easy part, it’s everything else I need to know and learn before going ahead with this.
Bookbinding
I am a lover of stationery, especially notebooks. I have to fight very hard not to buy more and more of them, especially the beautiful hand-bound notebooks. Bookbinding courses are available which allow students to develop skills in traditional bookbinding, gold tooling, paper marbling, historic and experimental book structures and contemporary fine binding. I would love to be able to make my own notebooks as well as make them for friends, family or even to sell!
