Redecorate your Bedroom for better sleep
Want to improve your quality of sleep? Redecorating your bedroom could make a difference. Here are just several ways in which improving your bedroom décor could help you to sleep better.
Cull the clutter
Too much clutter in your room could be keeping you up at night. This is because our brains don’t rest well when there is clutter everywhere – a disorganised environment sends signals to our brain that we still have uncompleted tasks to do. By finding a way to eliminate this clutter, you could find it easier to fall asleep at night.
Big sources of clutter could include piles of clothes on the floor and cosmetics strews across dressers. Consider buying more storage options to contain these loose objects or schedule a clear-out.
Use soothing colours
The colour scheme of your bedroom can also make an impact. Certain colours have a calming effect, whilst others have an energising effect.
Blues, greens, purples and greys are just a few classic calming colours – these are well suited to the bedroom as they encourage us to relax. Colours like red meanwhile may be better to avoid – red is the colour of physical activity and is much better suited to the kitchen or dining room.
Keep the sunlight out
Many people get woken up early by sunlight coming through their windows. By considering blackout wave curtains, blinds or window shutters, you could prevent this sunlight from pouring in. Companies like Direct Fabrics offer some great options. Regular curtains may not always be enough for some rooms and could still let in enough light in the morning to wake you up.
Use sleep-inducing plants
Adding plants to your bedroom could potentially help you to sleep too. Plants provide a fresh source of oxygen in a room and can help improve the air quality by dehumidifying and purifying the air.
On top of this, there are some plants that can give off sleep-inducing scents – a couple of great examples of this include jasmine and lavender which can help to increase the production of the sleep hormone melatonin.
Upgrade your bed and bedding
None of the above bedroom features will make any difference if you don’t have a comfortable bed. Making a few upgrades to your bed and bedding could be just what you need to help you sleep.
You should start by considering the size of your bed and the type of frame. Many people prefer a large bed, but there are some people that prefer the cosiness of a smaller bed. Features like a headboard and footboard could also be important to consider (for many tall people, a footboard can just get in the way).
The next vital ingredient to consider is your mattress. This can often be a case of personal preference – some people love the support of a hard mattress, whilst others prefer the springiness of a soft mattress. There are then hybrid mattresses that can combine both soft and hard.
Finally, consider your bedding. Certain materials of sheets can be better for certain temperatures (the likes of flannel are better for winter, whilst bamboo and silk is better for summer). Having a duvet and a thinner blanket on your bed at all times meanwhile could allow you to easily switch between layers if the temperature changes.
