Review: Huski Home Rice Husk Travel Coffee Cup
You might have noticed that a lot of my posts recently have been on the topic of coffee and I am not really sure why – but coffee does play a large part in my life so perhaps that’s the reason!
Today I want to tell you about this fantastic company I recently found when they were recommended on Facebook – Huski Home is a family-run company that put sustainability at the top of their priority list by creating eco-friendly, reusable homewares from natural waste.
In the UK alone, we use 7 million disposable coffee cups every day, amounting to around 2.5 billion every year, of which 182 million ends up on our streets and in our oceans. Sadly, I used to be one of those people grabbing a coffee on the commute and not thinking about the impact on the environment. Following their initial research, Huski Home decided to develop a range of merchandise made from bi-products as they felt these were underutilised and could solve an issue without creating a new one, or exhausting existing resources.
When I was introduced to Huski Home I straight away homed in on their lovely coffee travel cups and I picked out and purchased the eco-friendly travel cup in violet (500ml) for myself. Their travel cups are made from recycled rice husks. Rice is harvested in mass quantities throughout the world and the sheer volume of husks produced from the process causes issues; if not ethically discarded, the rice husks can be a biohazard.
Seeing this issue, Huski Home has created a way to recycle rice husks into a durable, reusable, non-toxic material which they make into their fantastic range of cups and lunch boxes with new household items coming soon.
So, back to my travel cup! I was attracted first by the colour (purple is my favourite colour) along with the elegant design and ample volume (the cups come in 400ml of 500ml versions) it could hold. I do enjoy a big coffee! There are plenty of practical benefits to the travel cup too. It is twin walled, keeping hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold for hours, perfect for anyone wanting to make a coffee at home with something like one of these Espresso machines from Sanremo, and then head out the door. They’re also free from melamine, BPA and silicone and are also non-toxic. They’re very durable and can last a life time.
When it arrived I thought the travel coffee cup was even more beautiful in person, with a smooth finish and beautifully flecked violet colour, fitting very nicely in my hand. It has a leak-proof flip lid and a non-slip base both of which I think are just marvellous features.
I really love using my eco-friendly travel cup – even just around the house. With 3 Labradors and 3 cats in the house I am forever finding hair floating in open cups and cups can be easily knocked off of tables. My coffee stays hot the whole time I am drinking and I mean, look how stylish it is!
I am awarding Huski Home 5 out of 5 for their fabulous travel cup and their environmentally minded use of a material which would otherwise be wasted or potentially hazardous. I look forward to checking out their upcoming new products!
