Review: Lyons New Look Coffee Bags

Coffee in a bag? No you haven’t misread the title of this post, tea isn’t the only drink that comes in a bag. Lyons have a range of coffee bags for people who want a speedy hot drink which doesn’t neglect quality.

The idea of coffee bags is not new to me as I was happy to have been given some from Lyons before to review. For 2016 Lyons have given their coffee bags a new look drawing on their heritage, producing retro style packaging which I think looks really lovely.

This is certainly not your run of the mill instant coffee. Lyons say they lovingly roast and grind their beans for their coffee bags and use their individual foil wrapping to lock in freshness and flavour so you can enjoy a fast cup of coffee made from freshly roast and ground coffee. Lyons guarantee 100% fresh ground coffee in every bag,  so you don’t have to compromise on quality when you’re yearning for a caffeine boost on the go.

The range of new look coffee bags come in a range of options: light and smooth – perfect for the morning, full and rich bodied (the all-round performer) , dark and intense (a rich Italian after-dinner drink) and great without the kick (decaffeinated). I was sent a pack the full and rich bodied coffee bags* to try this  time around, containing 18 coffee bags.

The method of making a coffee from a coffee bag is just like making a cup of tea! Simply add your coffee bag to a cup and pour in boiled water. Leave it to steep for three or four minutes, remove the bag and enjoy! You might think that this makes a weak cup of coffee but you would be wrong! I was very pleasantly surprised both with the powerful scent of coffee when I opened the foil package and the flavourful taste of the coffee. Certainly the beans have lost little to none of their flavour.

I can heartedly recommend the Lyons coffee bags to anyone who is looking for an instant coffee with real flavour and no fuss. I award them 4 out of 5 stars.
