Review: Majority Oakington Compact Stereo System

I know it’s bad, but when I am home I mostly rely on my Amazon Alexa devices to play music – usually when I am cleaning or cooking. This is certainly handy as I have an Alexa in every room of my house (yes, I’m a smart home addict), and because it is connected to my Spotify account but the Alexa technology isn’t necessarily the best when it comes to music sound quality.
If you’re serious about music then you’ll want to have something with a better specification for really enjoying a good quality sound, so when I was offered the chance to try the Majority Oakington Compact Stereo System from Cambridge-UK based home audio brand Majority I was really interested in seeing how it measured up.
Founded by two friends Eddie Latham and PJ Scott from Cambridge in 2012, Majority has grown to become an Amazon best-selling brand. From the start, the founders have focussed on using ground-breaking technology to deliver quality consumer electronics at an affordable price with their goal being inclusivity. Latham and Scott use their years of know-how to continue to build a brand that designs products for a variety of budgets.
Today, Majority have a range of more than 50 radios, speakers, soundbars and DVD players, all of which are designed in their studio in Cambridge. As technology sees the world evolve, Majority are running to meet the developing requirements of home entertainment devices. Since being established in 2012, the company has grown from two guys working out of a living room to a team of over 40 with offices across the UK.
The mains-powered Majority Oakington Compact Stereo System is an all-in-one system including a CD player alongside DAB/DAB+ digital, FM, and Bluetooth radio with added extras such as an AUX-in, USB charging port and USB MP3 playback, adjustable bass, treble and equaliser to heighten the audio experience, making it super flexible with many listening options.
The Bluetooth function allows you to stream playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks wirelessly from any compatible device without the hassle of wires or cables. Should you prefer listening to the radio, you get to experience uninterrupted, crystal-clear audio from a wide selection of radio stations, designed and perfected by audio experts in the UK. Save your favourite DAB and FM stations on up to 20 pre-sets and recall them with a few simple clicks, and the dual alarm comes in handy for those early morning wake ups.
Small but mighty, the Oakington comes in at 40 x 20 x 13 cm with a weight of 1.2kg, which makes it easy to find a space where it can live in the home. I really like the look of the system, it is sleek, elegant, and versatile with its wooden finish (either oak or walnut) and aluminium front. Not forgetting it comes with a handy remote control so you don’t have to leave your comfortable chair to change what you are listening to.
The Oakington Compact Stereo System offers great sound quality with the Oakington’s patented HD sound using its 30-watt system with powerful dual stereo speakers. Majority offer full technical support for every item, as well as including a comprehensive 36-month warranty (registration required).
Something that really draws me to this brand is the fact that Majority have committed to planting a tree for every single product sold in a mission to become the first carbon neutral audio brand. So far they have planted over 420,000 trees and removed over 212 tonnes of carbon.
Overall I have really enjoyed using the Majority Oakington Compact Stereo System – it’s perfect for listening to music while doing household chores and for enjoying audiobooks during my down time. The only thing that I think could add to the functionality would be the ability to be portable – but I certainly don’t have any complaints about the current features! I award it 5 out of 5 stars.
