Simple Ways To Bring More Nature Into Your Life
Is your life dominated by screens, technology, and endless to-do lists? If so, you’re not alone – that just seems to be the way modern life is. However, wouldn’t it be lovely to reconnect with nature, even if it’s only a little bit? Wouldn’t that make everything else easier to deal with? And we’re not talking about hikes for miles through the remote wilderness (although that’s fantastic if it’s what you want to do); just small changes that link to nature can really help. With that in mind, here are some simple ways to bring more nature into your life that will benefit you hugely; read on to find out more.
Create A Window Garden
Even if you don’t have much – or any – outdoor space, you can still have a lovely garden by using your windowsill, so why not give it a go? Most of the time, that windowsill is just a place to put random objects and it gathers dust along with its forgotten knickknacks, but if you add a few potted herbs or some trailing plants like ivy, you’ve suddenly created a tiny little garden without much effort – how great is that? Some of the best things to have in your garden include basil, mint, and thyme because not only do they look great, but you can actually use them in your cooking, which makes them even better.
When you’re making your window garden, you’ll want to put them where the morning sun streams in, and that way you’ll have a cheerful reminder of nature in front of you all the time – that can be a gorgeous way to reconnect when you need it.
Bring Nature Indoors
Starting with a garden on your windowsill is fantastic, but you can take things further – much further. Houseplants are a very popular option right now, and there’s a good reason for that because they purify the air, help you focus more, and they make your home look and feel calm and peaceful. What’s not to love about that? Of course, they can be tricky to take care of, so if you’re not sure what you’re doing or you’ve not had much luck in the past, opting for hardy varieties like snake plants, peace lilies, or pothos is a good choice.
If you really want to take this to the limit, what about creating a terrarium? That’s basically a miniature indoor ecosystem that you can set up and that can be tailored to your life, depending on how much time you have to dedicate to its care. You can go as far as you like with these, perhaps even creating little scenes with mini figures if you want to – it can be a lot of fun and will definitely help you connect with nature more.
Get A Greenhouse
If you’ve got a bit more outside space and you’re not sure what to do with it, what about buying a greenhouse? Greenhouses are great because they allow you to grow a variety of different and exciting plants all year round, so it won’t matter what the weather’s doing or what time of year it is, you can still get out in nature and get your hands dirty – literally!
The best part is that greenhouses come in all shapes and sizes, so you don’t have to get one that’s huge and takes up all your outside space – if you’ve got a smaller garden, you can get a smaller greenhouse. And if you’ve got a bigger garden, you can get one that works for you whether it’s big or small. In other words, the size of the greenhouse really doesn’t matter, as long as it’s in the right position, and if you don’t know where to put it, just ask the experts when you buy it and they’ll be able to offer plenty of useful advice.
Start A Wildflower Patch
Not everyone is good at gardening and not everyone has the time to put into making their garden look neat and tidy. So what if you fall into one of those groups (or both of those groups, come to that)? Well, it’s okay because you could start a wildflower patch and solve all the problems at once.
Wildflowers are stunning, but they’re also fantastic for pollinators like bees and butterflies, so if you’ve got a patch of lawn that you don’t mind losing, why not give it over to the flowers and let it grow wild? You could leave it to its own devices, but you can also buy wildflower seeds which will get things started more quickly. Whatever you do, in the end you’ll have a patch of garden that’s gorgeous, great for the environment, and doesn’t need a lot of care and attention – that’s perfect!
