Top Bunny entertainment to watch this Easter
You might remember that I recently told you about what tv series I am currently watching including pirates, crime fighting, vikings, the Devil and ballet dancers. This Easter I am hoping to relax with my chocolate eggs and watch fantastic seasonal favourites, so in the run up to Easter here are my top picks for movies and episodes which feature the seasonal favourite: the bunny!
Dylan- The Magic Roundabout
As I child I loved watching The Magic Roundabout (one of my mum’s favourites, originally broadcast from 1964 to 1971) which saw a cast of animated animals and a few people taking on every day (and not so every day) struggles in a TV series. The main character is Dougal, a sugar loving shaggy dog and his owner Florence. One of the funniest characters is Dylan the Rabbit who is a dopey guitar-playing hippy rabbit who is usually found strumming away (sometimes to suspicious looking mushrooms…) and pondering the mysteries of the universe. In 2005 The Magic Roundabout was made into a movie staring the voices of Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Tom Baker, Jim Broadbent, Lee Evans, Joanna Lumley, Bill Nighy, Ray Winstone and Ian McKellen. It’s the perfect movie for Easter with a battle between good vs evil, sun vs ice, who will prevail? Get the DVD here.
Thumper – Bambi
Bambi is one of the most well known Disney movies of all time, and unfortunate one of the saddest! Luckily my memories of this movie are more centered upon a soft toy I owned of Thumper the Rabbit, so called for his habit of thumping his left hind foot in the film. Thumper takes on the role of teacher in the film and he tries to teach the young deer fawn a number of tricks including how to speak and how to skate on ice. Originally designed to be a small role, Thumper grew into a star in his own right with a spin-off franchise, Disney Bunnies, with Thumper as the main character. Another film which is suited to the period dealing with loss and survival above all odds, this is a classic well worth dusting off this Easter. Get the DVD here.
The White Rabbit – Alice in Wonderland
“I’m late, I’m late for a very important date. No time to say “Hello”, goodbye! I’m late! I’m late!I’m late! I’m late!” Who can resist a beautiful white rabbit in a waistcoat with a pocket watch? Of course if it hadn’t been for the White Rabbit darting into his rabbit hole Alice would never have tumbled down it after him and found herself in Wonderland. A fantastic family classic, Alice in Wonderland combines a epic story of goodies and baddies with mad tea parties, flamingo crochet and people loosing their heads! I recommend the most recent 2010 version of this tale directed by Tim Burton who creates a magical fantasy land for this well loved cast of characters. To ensure you get the best out of the cinematography and visual effects I recommend watching the film on a Viera 4K TV. Get the DVD here.
Wallace – The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Have you ever woken up not feeling quite yourself? The curse of the were-rabbit follows our friends Wallace and Gromit who have turned their hand to rabbit catching, as they try to help the residents of a village which is being plagued by a mutant rabbit who is eating up all the vegetables before an annual vegetable competition where the prized Golden Carrot Award is due to be won. Follow Wallace and Gromit as they try to solve the mystery of the disappearing veg and come to a shocking discovery! This is a great Easter show for all the family. Get the DVD here.
Emelius Browne – Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Bedknobs and Broomsticks is a remarkable family film set during World War II. Three children are evacuated to a large spooky house in the countryside owned by Miss Eglantine Price who, it is discovered, is a Witch in training! When Eglantine realises that her correspondence course in Witchcraft has a missing spell “Substitutiary Locomotion” she and the children go on a wild adventure to discover the words to this powerful spell which brings inanimate things to life. During their adventures they meet Emelius Browne, the founder of the witchcraft correspondence course, and due to his bad behaviour is turned into a lovely white rabbit by Eglantine several times during the film with the words “Filigree apogee pedigree perigee”. I can not recommend this film enough, not only do we follow the unlikely adventurers as they search for the Substitutiary Locomotion spell, but we get to see the spell in action at the end of the film when the Nazi’s invade and find themselves battling hoards of suits of armour from the local museum! An Easter must see. Get the DVD here.
Roger – Who framed Roger Rabbit
This movie is a magical blend of live action with animation which stars Bob Hoskins as Eddie Valiant, a private detective with a bad history with cartoons (or ‘toons’), who is brought in to investigate the murder of a wealthy Hollywood businessman who is believed to have been killed by cartoon Roger Rabbit. Valient and Roger team up to prove the rabbit’s innocence despite many twists and turns (not forgetting the appearance of Roger’s stunning wife Jessica). This movie is a great laugh and perfect for the kids who will love the dynamic comedy and array of recognisable characters. Get the DVD here.
