We Predict 2018’s Big Flooring Trends
2018 is still a few months away yet, but when you’re as addicted to interior design as we are, it’s never too early to look to the future and try to spot the next big trend on the horizon. With that in mind, here are our top 5 flooring predictions for the new year – if you want to be ahead of the curve when you redecorate your living space this winter, read on!
Sweet Simplicity
This hectic world of ours seems to get busier every day, and your home should be an escape from that. Cluttered rooms and overly lively designs only serve to remind us of the hustle and bustle of daily life, so our first prediction for 2018 is a trend towards simple, minimal interior design schemes that are easy to relax in.
Floor-wise, that means neutral colours and a preference for natural wood floorboards and simple, practical laminates. Not only are these products easy on the eye, they’re nice and easy to clean as well – wouldn’t you rather wipe spills up from a laminate floor than scrub them out of a carpet?
Environmental Friendliness
The future of our planet is becoming a more and more important issue with each passing year, so eco-friendly products are only going to become more popular as time goes by.
Bamboo flooring is a very environmentally-conscious choice that looks absolutely lovely in all kinds of different spaces. Because bamboo is a grass, not a tree, it grows back very quickly, making bamboo significantly more sustainable than most other wood flooring sources.
Enticing Textures
Quite a few people are predicting that textured floors and carpets will be a big trend next year. Previously, laminate flooring had the problem that, no matter how nice it looked, it didn’t have the texture of real wood, but recent technological advancements have gone a long way to eliminating that issue. Just take a look at this longboard wood-effect laminate:
Bright Bursts of Colour
Pastels have been fashionable for quite a while, but now it seems like they’re on their way out and bright, bold colours are rising up to take their place. We’re expecting to see a lot of bright-coloured furnishings in 2018’s hippest interiors (think striking green sofas, think bright orange footstools), and these will no doubt be paired with simple flooring designs that make those colourful touches really pop. A bright red armchair stands out even more when it’s set against clean white tiles!
Of course, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you could even go for a bright, bold colour with the floor itself. Take a look at this glossy red laminate design:
Gorgeous Greys
Even as bright colours become more popular, there’ll still be plenty of room for elegant, muted greys in the Home of 2018. Grey remains a very fashionable colour – you may think of it as boring and bland, but trust us, it can really work wonders in one’s living space.
